Setting the Standard: New AUA Guidelines Affirm WVD’s Approach

In Argentina, demand for vasectomy has grown in recent years, in a process that cannot be separated from the broader transformations driven by the women’s movement.

This month brings news that marks a significant milestone for our global movement. The American Urological Association (AUA) has officially released its updated clinical guidelines for vasectomy—a long-awaited document that will shape the standard of care for years to come. We are proud to share that these new guidelines align remarkably closely with the principles, techniques, and patient-centered approach that have already guided the WVD training manual since our founding.

A Proud Moment for Our Lead Trainer

We are especially honored to recognize the role our own lead trainer, Dr. Michel Labrecque, played in developing these guidelines. Dr. Labrecque’s decades of research, teaching, and clinical leadership in no-scalpel vasectomy have helped define best practices worldwide, and his contributions to the AUA panel reflect the depth of expertise our community has long benefited from. The fact that the new guidelines so closely mirror the WVD training manual is a testament to the quality of the curriculum he has built and the providers we train together each year.

Pre-Father’s Day Webinar — June 6

To bring this moment to the WVD community, we invite you to join us on June 6, 2026, for our annual pre-Father’s Day webinar. We are deeply honored to welcome our keynote speaker, Dr. Peter Schlegel, who will present the new AUA guidelines in detail and offer ample opportunity for questions and discussion. Dr. Schlegel’s leadership in urology and reproductive medicine makes him uniquely positioned to walk us through both the evidence base and the practical implications for providers around the world.

We are also excited to broaden the conversation by welcoming Dr. Gareth James of the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC), who will share perspectives from primary care surgical practice in the United Kingdom. Rounding out the program, we’ll hear directly from WVD participating providers and institutions across the globe on the real-world challenges and opportunities of adapting to new standards in their own settings—from urban hospitals to rural outreach clinics.

Why This Matters

Guidelines are more than documents—they shape training, reimbursement, patient counseling, and access. When global best practice converges with the principles we teach, more men gain access to safe, compassionate, and evidence-based vasectomy care. That is the heart of WVD’s mission, and it is why your participation in this webinar matters.

Registration details and the full agenda will follow in a separate communication. In the meantime, please mark your calendars, share the invitation with colleagues, and come prepared with the questions you’ve been waiting to ask.

In his role as concerned citizen rather than medical expert, our own executive director and co-founder, Jonathan Stack, was listed as one of a 13-member panel. It is another example of WVD’s growing contribution and significance to the field.

Together, we are changing the conversation—and the standard of care—for men’s reproductive health worldwide.
