Welcome to the April issue of the WVD Newsletter!

Dear WVD Community,

This April, as we celebrate Earth Day, we return to a simple but powerful concept: protecting families means protecting the Planet and protecting the Planet means protecting families.

Without bacteria, ecosystems, pollinators, forests, and oceans, without mammals and fish, there is no human life. We are not separate from nature, we are part of it.  And yet, sadly, as humanity’s numbers increase, the pressure we place on life also increases and with it, a loss of the exquisite biodiversity that makes our very existence possible.  It doesn’t have to be that way.I love our work at WVD because a vasectomy is not just an act of love for oneself and our family, but also an act of love for future generations.

In that spirit, this month we honor our friend, and early supporter, Dr. Paul Ehrlich, the author of a best seller, The Population Bomb, who passed away this past March 13, with a short obit and a letter he wrote in support of our work. Paul Ehrlich Obit 3-16-2026

In 2013, I was fortunate to spend a week filming with Paul in Costa Rica, where he was studying bird populations on wild land that had steadily shrunk over the last decades. He had witnessed, firsthand, the quiet, yet tragic, disappearance of many species.

Given his sobering perspective about the future of humanity, I asked what kept him going. His answer was simple: “If I believe there’s a 5% chance the planet can survive our own idiocy, and my efforts can increase that by even half a percent, it’s worth it.”

Let that be our call to action.

That each of us can make a difference, large or small. And together, those small efforts may be exactly what ensures that life, in all its forms, may flourish.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Stack
