World Vasectomy Day Argentina 2025

The celebration of the annual event in Argentina in 2025 once again demonstrated something that World Vasectomy Day knows: that when we meet, share knowledge and work together, advances in male contraception become stronger, more visible and closer to those who need them.

For seven days, doctors, students, coaches, local teams, state authorities, and partner organizations joined an intensive agenda that combined training, fieldwork, and spaces for reflection. Under the motto #CareMovesUs , each shared experience sought to place men at the center of the conversation, reminding us that the movement we promote at WVD transcends the technical. It is a global network sustained by the dedication, conviction, and collective work of those of us who strive to broaden the horizon of equality.

Training at the center of the stage

As in previous years, training played a central role in the event, but this year it reached an unprecedented scale. Ten international doctors from the WVD network, over one hundred local professionals, and five hospitals in the province joined a series of simultaneous training sessions, marking a new milestone for our movement.

This dynamic was made possible thanks to the commitment of the authorities and the sustained work of the interdisciplinary teams of each hospital, which allowed the exchange between local doctors and foreign trainers to be maximized and enhance mutual learning.

Train the Trainers program stands out. Three physicians from the province of Buenos Aires, previously trained in the VSB technique participated in a professional development course to strengthen their teaching skills and position themselves as local trainers. These training sessions were held simultaneously at the Mercante Hospital in José C. Paz and the Carlotto Maternity Hospital in Moreno.

In parallel, the San Martín Hospital in La Plata organized training for two urologists from Bahía Blanca in the no-scalpel vasectomy technique, led by local trainer Gustavo Cavazzutti with the support of trainers from WVD. This training is part of the project’s expansion and sustainability process, enabling professionals from other regions to incorporate the practice.

Meanwhile, fifteen urology residents from the Cuenca Alta Hospital in Cañuelas participated in a theoretical and practical course led by WVD members under the leadership of Ana Cepeda. At the Balestrini Hospital, a vasectomy marathon organized by the local team included the participation of five WVD trainers, strengthening the exchange with local vasectomists .

As part of the activities carried out in the hospitals, a total of 176 no-scalpel vasectomies were performed. These procedures renew the energy that underpins one of our core principles: building well-trained and prepared teams to ensure the sustainability of our services.

Institutional support from the Ministry of Health

The opening ceremony, attended by authorities from the province of Buenos Aires, marked a key moment. The signing of the agreement with the provincial Ministry of Health reinforces an alliance that has been growing year after year and allows for the expansion of services, the consolidation of training programs, and the opening of new lines of collaborative work.

Another milestone of this alliance was the presentation of the Practical Guide for Healthcare Teams on No-Scalpel Vasectomy, published by the province of Buenos Aires with technical support from WVD. This guide sets a precedent in the implementation of male contraception services.

Spaces for dialogue: obstetricians, unions and new perspectives on care

Among the most significant activities was the discussion “Midwives in Promoting Equity in Sexual Health,” organized by WVD and the Ministry of Health of the Province of Buenos Aires. The hybrid event brought together 190 midwives and created a key space to consider how to incorporate men into family planning from the primary care level. The presence of partner organizations reaffirmed the importance of building these institutional bridges to strengthen their professional practice.

Another highlight was the awareness-raising space entitled “Gender Policies, Men and Care,” organized by the Ministry of Women and Diversity, which opened the conversation about care and men’s health with workers and union delegates.

Territorial alliances, community activities, and a Mobile Unit that continues to pave the way

The Mobile Health Unit, the team that the Ministry of Health set up for performing vasectomies, visited four hospitals in different cities throughout the week, demonstrating its strategic value: bringing services closer, simplifying care, and expanding access beyond the clinic.

The mobile unit’s tour was accompanied by the organization of Health Fairs, which offered information to the community, promoting access to the care system.

Allied civil organizations, such as Casa FUSA, Casa Matrioshka and the Comprehensive Health Clinic of Córdoba, also organized promotional activities, vasectomy days and spaces for dialogue between men in different parts of the country.

Finally, the closing of the annual event brought together culture, health, and celebration. The photo contest “ Care in Focus, Men in Action ” highlighted perspectives on male caregiving from different regions, while the Health Fair and live music contributed the community spirit that characterizes our activities.

A path we continue to build together

WVD Argentina 2025 yielded valuable lessons, new allies, more trained professionals, and many shared stories. But above all, it reaffirmed that what we do works because we do it as a network.

We know that this work continues every day, in every hospital, every doctor’s office, every training space, and every conversation that helps transform the way men relate to their health and reproductive co-responsibility.
