In 2012, we set out to create a movement grounded in kindness and compassion, and here we are 10 years later – the largest male focused family planning movement ever!
We dedicate our success to the men who share responsibility for family planning, to the women who inspire smart decisions, to the doctors whose passion for excellence is second to none and to the organizations and advocates who know that consciously creating the family size of one’s choice is both right and righteous.
To those the many who have this possible, we are honored to add Silvana Resendy Birhuett, recently hired as our Global Director of Innovation and Marketing. Born and raised in Brazil, with a Master’s degree in Marketing and International Business earned in Bolivia, Silvana has spent the last quarter of a century at two of Bolivia’s most respected sexual and reproductive health organizations – first at PROSALUD and most recently, as Commercial Director for Marie Stopes in Bolivia.
During her career, Silvana has been responsible for a series of successful demand generation campaigns, she launched Marie Stopes’ highly effective ‘Call Center’ and she brought the first subdermal implants into the country. Her hard-earned accomplishments were achieved while gaining the affection and respect of her colleagues and staff.
WVD got to know Silvana well as part of the 2021 WVD training mission to Bolivia during which time her and her team, inspired 500 men to sign up for a vasectomy.

for a vasectomy
Taking advantage of such extraordinary demand, Dr. John Curington and Dr. Michel Labrecque trained 4 Bolivian providers and Alison Hoover, WVD’s Director of Research, oversaw what we hope will be our first IRB approved study. In summary, Dr. Labrecque called it, ‘the best mission I’ve ever participated in’.
Silvana’s passion for sexual and reproductive health, her belief in the importance of male engagement in family planning and her experience leading teams in multiple capacities is precisely what World Vasectomy Day needs to assure that our organization achieves our potential.
We are profoundly grateful to have her on board as we enter our 10th Anniversary and even more grateful that she will be with us as we begin preparing for the decade that lies ahead.
“When I witnessed the strength, energy, courage and love that the WVD team brings to doctors, health care workers and most of all to families, I knew I wanted to be a part of this powerful movement”
