Meet the Executive Director of XY³

I am thrilled to introduce myself to the World Vasectomy Day community as the incoming Executive Director of XY³, an exciting new initiative from the WVD team that aims to help transform how men in the United States participate in reproductive health and family planning.

Inspired by Jonathan Stack’s compelling documentary, SNIP TRIP about WVD’s Board Chairman, founding director, Dr. Esgar Guarín,  XY³ will build our movement in the US one vasectomy, one conversation, one mile and one community at a time.

XY³ combines accessible services, powerful storytelling, and community connection to engage men as active partners in reproductive decision-making. By creating space for men to engage in reproductive health and the decisions that shape their families, XY³ is building a culture of shared responsibility and healthier expressions of masculinity.

I come to this role with 25 years of experience driving impactful programs, philanthropy, and research in the U.S. and globally. I have broad experience in program implementation, behavior change, communications, advocacy, and research. Prior to joining XY³, I spent eight years leading the Reproductive Equity portfolio at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

Other experiences that will shape my work with XY³ include leading strategy and communications for Planned Parenthood Global; facilitating the redesign of Namibia’s national adolescent sexual and reproductive health curriculum; and serving as executive director of a nonprofit youth development organization focused on teen pregnancy prevention.

I got my start advocating for reproductive justice as a volunteer teacher in rural Namibia. After three of my teenage students became pregnant and were forced to leave school, I began teaching sex education and helping students advocate for the right of all girls to stay in school. I remain deeply committed to advocating on behalf of individuals who lack reproductive agency, alongside my work on social and systems change.

The journey kicks off next week, Tuesday, October 13th at 1:00 p.m.

THE NAME: UNPACKING XY³

Every character in the name XY³ carries meaning.  The name is a statement of biology, mathematics, philosophy, and intention all compressed into three characters that can live on a screen, a t-shirt, a billboard, and a clinic wall with equal authority.

XY³ is the name for a movement that refuses to accept that reproductive health is a woman’s issue, that masculinity is fixed or that to care about an issue, without action, is sufficient. It is the name for a community of men, clinicians, and institutions who understand that the most powerful force in global health is not a drug, a clinic, or a campaign but a culture shift. And culture shifts happen when people act together.
