It’s hard to believe it’s only been a year.
On 9th August 2024, we opened the doors of Langiza Chikondi Clinic with a simple but radical dream — to create a safe, dignified space for men to care for themselves, to be seen, to ask questions, and to take control of their reproductive health.

And here we are. Just twelve months later, that dream is not only alive — it’s thriving.
From the moment Jonathan Stack, WVD Co-Founder and CEO, stood alongside Hon. Twaambo Mutinta, M.P. to officially launch the clinic, we knew we weren’t just starting a health facility. We were planting a movement.
A History-Making Year: Africa’s First Vasectomy Reversal
November 2024 marked a milestone not just for Zambia, but for the entire continent: the first-ever vasectomy reversal in Africa, performed right here at Langiza Chikondi. Our client came all the way from Kenya, seeking something few believed was even possible — and found it in a humble clinic with a bold mission.
It was a quiet triumph, but one that said everything: African men deserve access to the best care. Period.
From Trainees to Trailblazers
We’re proud not just of the procedures we’ve performed but of the people we’ve trained. In November 2024, we trained our first cohort of doctors — five incredible professionals, including Dr Robert Kachacha, who now leads LCC as Clinic Director and a certified Trainer of Trainees.
And we didn’t stop there. In June 2025, another group was trained — three medical licentiates and three nurses from the Zambian Ministry of Health. What’s special? This time, our own LCC doctors were the ones doing the training. That’s the kind of sustainable growth we believe in: homegrown expertise, multiplying impact.
Father’s Day, But Make It Holistic
This Father’s Day wasn’t just cards and cupcakes. We used it as a launchpad to expand what Langiza Chikondi offers, because men’s health is so much more than vasectomy.
We now provide:
- Male circumcision
- Prostate cancer screening
- Erectile dysfunction support
- Diabetes & hypertension screening
- Mental health and relationship counselling
It’s all connected. The body, the mind, the heart — they all need care. And now, men have a space where they can get it all, with respect, privacy, and intention.
Meeting Men Where They Are
One of the things I love most about this journey? Watching how our doctors take the message beyond the clinic walls. Men’s Insakas have become one of our most meaningful tools — traditional-style gatherings where men speak freely, ask questions without fear, and slowly unlearn what society taught them about silence and shame.
These conversations are reshaping how men see themselves. And it’s beautiful to witness.
The Numbers That Tell the Story
Let’s talk numbers — not just because they’re impressive, but because behind each one is a life, a choice, a conversation that mattered.
- 255 vasectomies in 2023
- 501 vasectomies in 2024
- 317 vasectomies so far in 2025 (as of June 20th)
- That’s 1,073 vasectomies to date.
Since its opening in August 2024, Langiza Chikondi Clinic has performed 597 vasectomies, contributing significantly to Zambia’s broader family planning goals. Using a standard conversion of 10.0 CYPs per vasectomy, this translates to approximately 5,970 Couple Years of Protection — nearly 6,000 years of sustained contraception coverage for couples.
To contextualise this impact further: with Zambia’s average household size standing at 5.3 people and a total fertility rate of 4.6 children per woman (Zambia Demographic and Health Survey, 2018), each vasectomy performed potentially reduces the number of unintended births significantly. When scaled, this translates to fewer financial burdens on families, improved maternal and child health, and greater opportunities for economic stability across communities.
Beyond the numbers, over 300 men have joined the Responsible Men’s Club, with 150 actively involved, and over 100 couples counselled. These figures aren’t just statistics — they’re a reflection of changing mindsets and bold choices made in favour of shared responsibility and long-term wellbeing. And the growth? It’s not linear. It’s exponential. That’s what happens when you lead with trust.
The Men’s Health Fair That Changed Everything
In November 2024, we hosted our first Men’s Health Fair. It was more than just an event — it was a statement. We turned a public space into a sanctuary where men could speak privately with doctors, learn about their health, and engage without fear of judgment.
We offered everything from mental health support to sexual health check-ins, and even threw in some callisthenics sessions to remind men that fitness doesn’t need to be fancy. Just 10–15 minutes a day, a bit of movement, a bit of breathing — it matters.
And yes, it happened alongside a vasectomy training week, which saw 138 procedures performed in just five days. Imagine that — 138 lives changed, 138 conversations sparked, 138 families impacted.
So, What’s Next?
We’re just getting started.
Langiza Chikondi Clinic has become more than we imagined, and still, there’s more to do. More men to reach. More myths to unlearn. More lives to change.
And the best part? We’re doing it together—with community, with compassion, and with the belief that when men are supported to care for themselves, everyone benefits.
Here’s to one year of courage, commitment, and care.
Here’s to everything that comes next.
