Health Days

📍Alberga Morelos

In the context of Father’s Day, celebrated in Mexico on the third Sunday of June, Morelos hosted the official launch of the Intensive Sexual and Reproductive Health for Men, a national strategy promoted by the Ministry of Health.

The winning videos of the national contest “Promoting Vasectomy in Mexico” were awarded at the event, with Morelos taking first place. Health Secretary Mario Ocampo Ocampo acknowledged that “creativity is key to connecting with new generations” and praised this initiative, which effectively communicates relevant health topics such as no-scalpel vasectomy.

“No-scalpel vasectomy is a safe, minimally invasive, outpatient medical procedure that allows men to actively and responsibly participate in family planning. Although it’s not a new method, its effectiveness and simplicity make it a reliable option for those who have decided not to have more children,” he stated.

Yolanda Varela Chávez, director of Family Planning at the National Center for Gender Equity and Reproductive Health, stated that “the intensive sessions represent an effort to highlight the role of men in the responsible exercise of their sexual and reproductive rights.

MarĂa Eugenia Vera Cruz, a representative of World Vasectomy Day, emphasized that “talking about male reproductive health means talking about equity, breaking down stigmas, and opening spaces where men can make informed decisions about their health.”

Jacqueline Hernández Ruiz, general director of SSM, said that “celebrating Father’s Day is not only about recognizing that role, but also about opening the conversation about what it means to be a father in today’s Mexico.”

He added that this date is an invaluable opportunity to promote new masculinity, empathetic, responsible, and stereotype-free fatherhoods.

Recognitions were also given to health professionals with outstanding careers in performing vasectomies.
